Born to be an activist

The project deals with various practices of activism and on-line campaigning with a view to create young leaders of campaigns in an attempt to fight all kinds of discrimination, including hate speech. In particular, through teaching and learning about various phenomena of hate speech on the website, as well as through finding and suggesting creative solutions to fight these phenomena, the project wishes to reveal a number of possibilities and tools that one can use in order to be involved into activism and campaigning and ultimately to promote a more inclusive, democratic space where diversity and all human rights will be respected. The project supports the idea that activism is the core of active citizenship and democratic participation which further leads to an inclusive European identity. Thus, youngsters need to learn new tools as well as new ideas about how to make their voice heard so that they can participate in society and contribute to the fight for human rights.

Objectives

 

The purpose of the project is to boost active European citizenship and democratic participation while promoting respect for all human rights with a focus on combating discrimination, using non –formal education and all different forms of activism and artIn this context, the project seeks to develop ways of awareness raising campaigning, with special attention to the social media platforms and new media for further combating discriminatory behaviors and hate speech in particular.

 

Target Groups

 

The participants may be NGO’s, youth workers and youngsters who want to be active members of the society.

 

 

Duration

 

Six (6) days, from 21st of June 2015 until 28th of June 2015 (travelling dates included).

About one month after the activity, the follow–up will take place.

 

 

Activities

 

Main activities

  • Theoretical workshops (non-formal learning about working methods, activism, online and offline hate speech and tools like social media and video etc).
  • Practical workshops and actions (street and theater actions, offline actions, design, photography, video (editing), creative writing workshops etc).

Outcome

Activist Package which would be the summary of the workshops and exchanged working methods containing posters, memes, stickers, photos, videos and new ideas as well as slogans, focusing on fighting hate speech.

 

Follow–up (about one month after the activity)

Evaluation and eventual translation of the Activist Package in order for the multiplying effect of the action –namely by disseminating the results and multiplying the outcomes in each country– to be assured.
