Tackling structural and institutional racism in 8 EU Member States

“Tackling structural and institutional racism in 8 EU Member States: state of affair and recommendations for national and European level”

The project aims to facilitate evidence-based policymaking and identify the gaps in addressing structural and institutional racism.

Main objective:

On the basis of the reports of the country experts that will be produced in each one of the involved 8 member – states after minority groups’ feedback, MPG will put forward policy recommendations to improve existing anti-racism policies and end structural racism in practice.

Special goals:

  • To start from the struggles of the communities and collect the necessary evidence to tackle inequalities by developing a common understanding of how racism and discrimination are institutionalised in different sectors of society, by engaging the key stakeholders (e.g., NGOs, racialised communities, minority groups) in different forms (e.g., focus groups, interviews, surveys) to define and reflect on structural and institutional racism.
  • To adopt an inductive and bottom-up approach that promotes better cooperation and synergies between researchers and stakeholders, in order to address the new policy priorities on the EU and national agendas to tackle structural racism.

Target groups:

Researchers, governmental and non -governmental stakeholders, minority groups and EU and national anti-discrimination policymakers

Actions:

  • 8 national workshops with the most relevant organisations and stakeholders to reflect and co-create possible policy actions to end structural racism.
  • Drafting of country reports that will register the situation regarding structural racism in each one of the involved 8 member – states and will produce policy recommendations.
  • Participation in experts working group organized by MPG in June 2024 to discuss the recommendations and a final event in Brussels in October 2024, gathering representatives of EU institutions (including the Council presidency), policymakers and key stakeholders.

Partners:

  • Migration Policy Group (MPG) which is an independent Brussels organization that conducts evidence-based projects, research and campaigns in the areas of integration, migration and anti-discrimination.
  • Robert Bosch Institute which is active in the areas of health, education, and global issues.
