Activism, Migrants

“New Forms of European Citizenship in the Era of Migration” (NECME)

“New Forms of European Citizenship in the Era of Migration” (NECME)

The Project ‘New Forms of European Citizenship in the Era of Migration’ – NECME is realized through a broader cooperation of organizations operating in European countries. The partners originate from 16 different countries.

Project objectives

The initiative NECME aims to encourage civil society for more active participation of immigrants in local societies through the promotion of cooperation and synergy with institutions involved in the integration process.

Starting point of the project is to analyze the integration difficulties, the role of human trafficking and its links with transnational organized crime.

Activities will be implemented in order to overcome attitudes of xenophobia, intolerance and discrimination. This will be achieved by raising awareness events on fundamental rights and on the difficulties faced by people migrating. A research will be implemented on human trafficking led by criminal organizations.

Target Groups

European and national public authorities, non-profit organizations, institutions and professionals dealing with intercultural integration policies and combating human trafficking.

Project activities

The 6 main activities of the project are:

  1. Preparation phase in which research will be implemented at international level, on perception of immigration and its impact on Europe and each national society.
  2. Analysis of the different aspects of integration and intercultural dimensions of citizenship at local level;
  3. Meetings with stakeholders involved in the intercultural integration policies and the fight against human trafficking;
  4. A meeting at the offices of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) on human rights, intercultural citizenship, integration and the European Union's policies on the matter;
