Ecotopia Biketour 2014

Ecology, Bicycle

Ecotopia Biketour is an eco-mobile do-it-yourself community that has been practising aspects of activism, alternative ways of organising and sustainable living throughout different areas of Europe for over 20 years.

Ecotopia Biketour is an eco-mobile do-it-yourself community that has been practising aspects of activism, alternative ways of organising and sustainable living throughout different areas of Europe for over 20 years.

The Biketour is for anyone interested in DIY, environmentalism, activism, community life and learning experientially from cultures, from challenges, and from each other.

When on the road, we share skills, practice consensus and act communally to create an informal and non-hierarchical environment. We cook local vegan food using a self-built rocket stove, camp and move everything by sheer pedal power on bikes and trailers – we are an evolving intentional community!

We visit places of alternative living, environmental and social struggle, ecological farms etc. and we love to be part of Critical Mass rides. At those places as well as on the road we exchange ideas and experiences, do skill-shares or help with manual work.

Each year, we collectively organise a new route and highlight a different theme such as; food sovereignty; sustainable economics or global justice. This year we will look at the increasing exploitation of land, people and of the political situation caused by the economic crisis in Europe. We are interested in learning about how people are finding different ways of making a living and the social movements and mobilisations that have arisen as a result of this exploitation.

The tour will start in Sofia, Bulgaria on 10th July and will follow a route over and around mountains stopping in these main places (and many places inbetween!) Nis, Serbia; Pristina, Kosovo; Skopje, Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia; Thessaloniki, Greece; and ending in Athens, Greece on 30th September.
